US Jobs Market Ends 2019 on 145,000 Increase

Some market analysts are pointing to a disappointing jobs report for December as the 160,000 target was not met. However, the unemployment level of 3.5% is now at a 50-year low according to the Labor Department figures. The pervious month of November dropped from 266,000 to 256,000, still a powerful report while October was revised from 156,000 to 152,000.

The total employed rose to 158.8 million while the rate for African Americans rose to 5.9%, a 0.3% rise. While a year of anxiety about a potential recession on the horizon faded. Fears of an outright downturn have likely been eradicated, some executives have been concerned about growth. The average number of jobs per month increased by 176,000 for the year 2019 – a slowdown from the 2018 number of 2.7 million.
