Despite the ongoing promotion of the fantastic deal the Trump administration cemented with China, the true details of the deal are not known to the public. However, our team are more interested in the ability or the inability of the US, Europe and Japan to enforce such a deal – remember, the US allies are cheering the US on in terms of forcing open the 2,000 year old door of China. These are bilateral negotiations but the US is in fact changing the way China does business with the world. For the pomp and circumstances expected at the signing ceremony, and the accelerated talks of the US negotiating team, we have little information in the way of details of enforcement on how China is pushed to follow international rules.
Here is our view: Our partners have over 40 years of Japan experience and after starting the trade talks by President Ronald Regan in the 1980s, one of the more comprehensive and significant deals were signed by the US President Donald Trump. So the next 3 to 4 US Presidents will be working to advance and drive trade deals with China – it takes decades to get things done when dealing in trade.
