Mr Kiyoshi Kimura, who owns a chain of stores called Sushizanmai purchased a tuna for $3 million over the new year period. This tuna was the best quality and was in the tuna world a big fish weighing 278 kg or 613 pounds. This fish was caught off the coast of Japan in Aomori Prefecture, and the price is double what he paid just six years ago. Mr Kimura is known to be a bigger-than-life personality who cuts tuna on TV with a samurai sword.
According to Mr Kimura he did pay too much as he was expecting to pay in the 30 to 60 million yen range for a fish, which is about 250,000 to 550,000 US dollars.
