One Long Island sixth-grader, who made national headlines earlier this month after her middle school teacher reportedly prevented her from selecting President Donald Trump as a “hero” for a school project, got a surprise from the President this week. As part of her research project, Bella Moscato selected the President to write into her hero story but her teacher told young Bella that Trump “spreads negativity and says bad stuff about women.”
Clearly this form of speech control is counter to the free speech rights this young Bella has – even at school. The teacher`s alleged actions, which the school district denied have 0ccured, outraged the young Bella and her parents.
Mr Arthur Moscato, her dad, said that he met the local school board and explained that the alleged actions “incensed” him. He was really upset that the teacher tried to shut his daughter down. “It`s a First Amendment right, freedom of speech, freedom of expression,” according to Arthur Moscato. So its seems that young Bella was brave and allowed the press to interview her.
She received a letter from President Trump – it is now in the free press, not some of the controlled media of course – and young Bella is clearly reminded that she should stand up for herself and that the President is proud of her. Mr Trump reminded Bella that because of her leadership the country has a bright future.
