The White House has now said that it has reached an initial deal with Japan, with President Trump saying that he is entering an “executive agreement” with Japan over so-called digital trade. There is no mention by the White House about about specific tariffs. After meeting Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the G-7 last month, Trump announced that there was a deal “in principle” and look suggested more news to come. The US has the third largest deficit with Japan, with China and Mexico being the first two. Under the old proposal the US agricultural products that are covered – targeted to have reduced tariffs – wine, beef, pork, dairy products and ethanol. We are curious to see the new deal that the Trump administration will offer Japan.
