More comments from President Trump – but isn’t it time that he sits down with the Democrat Leadership and hammer out a solution? We think it is, and it might happen soon.
Flanked by a group of border agents, President Donald Trump now telling them as they do not have paychecks this month because of the government shutdown, that he will enact emergency powers to build a wall. This claim comes as the President just flew down to Texas to see the border wall. The shutdown stretched into its 20th day. President Trump is forcing the issue saying that the $5.7 billion is necessary for a border barrier – his signature campaign promise.
“I find China, frankly, in many ways to be far more honorable than Crying Chuck and Nancy. I really do,” said the President. The White House is now saying that the President Trump would veto bills if they made it to his desk. Note that he has been even more confrontational with the press and has even claimed that he will call the border a national security threat and a national emergency. His lawyers have told him apparently, that he has the power to do so.Or he is baiting the press, as he does daily.
The declaration would circumvent Congress and allow the President to have access to funds without the congressional approval. Trump could build sections of the wall, possibly using funds from the Army Corps of Engineers.
Senator Joe Manchin, a moderate Democrat who has built a strong relationship with the President said it would be wrong for the President to use emergency powers but it might be the only way out. Manchin predicted the Senate would immediately pass legislation to fund the federal agencies that have been partially closed.
