There is a lot of hype around the next meeting between dictator Kim Jong-un, and President Donald Trump. The North Korean leader is said to be flying to Vietnam next month with the US President meeting him there for their second summit. These details are now coming out of Stockholm as leaders from North Korea, South Korea and the United States held talks on nuclear weapons and missiles that the US, Japan and other leadings nations in the region feel are preventing peace. The Associated Press and the Japan News by the Yomiuri Shimbun reported these details.
Currently North Korea is seeking an end to the United States and South Korean military exercise along its coast while it requests an end to the 1950 to 1953 Korea War. It also seeks stronger ties with South Korea and this means strong economic ties and exchange, allowing more investment. Some of us think, and we at Classiarius agree, that North Korea could be a manufacturing zone for South Korea, allowing the lives of North Koreans to improve.
Of course, the US wants North Korea to stop firing missiles and to dismantle its nuclear and missile programs. The previous demand from the US was “final fully verified denuclearization of North Korea” but this has now shifted to the US demanding North Korea “reduce” its nuclear capacity. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has been fully involved in the pre-meeting affairs and the upcoming meeting might bring results according to sources.
President Trump has talked about “falling in love” when speaking about Kim Jong-un. This would not be normal diplomatic talk in any country but again this is Trump-world, anything can happen.
