The US, Iran and Spies

The US, Iran and Spies 1

Iran has produced a series of pictures and even business cards from a group of men that they say are US citizens and card carrying members of the US Central Intelligence Agency or CIA. Note that Iran arrested 17 of its own citizens last month saying that they were working for the US, with seven of this group immediately receiving the death penalty. With regards to the notion of spies in Iran, the US President Donald Trump said that these were false statements and the US was not running spies in Iran. Also, in a notice to Congress, the State Department said it had extended for 90 days waivers hat permit European and Russian and Chinese companies to conduct civilian-nuclear cooperation at several Iranian sites.

The waivers, according to an article sourced on CNBC, are the last remaining elements that the US still recognizes from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal from which President Donald Trump withdrew last year. Note that Trump signed an executive order placing sanctions on Iran`s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Those sanctions are largely symbolic. In our humble opinion, the US government is attempting to force a deal to have Iran give up its nuclear program and become part of the global economy. Iran currently is suffering from economic collapse as its economy shrank 6 percent in the past 12 months and is suffering from 75 percent inflation. We believe that in the end, the US, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the EU will sit down and negotiate a peace plan – we all want a peace plan in place.
