The Minister of Cybersecurity Doesn`t Use Computers

The Japanese Cybersecurity Minister confessed that in addition to not using computers, says openly in the Diet that he is not  familiar with cybersecurity. Mr Yoshitaka Sakurada does not seem to be tech savvy as he spoke at a Lower House Committee on Thursday, saying that he really does not know much about cybersecurity, which is interesting because Japan is concerned about the upcoming 2020 games, a platform in which Sakurada serves as a minister. He faced his first question-and-answer session on a bill to revise the Basic Act on Cybersecurity. In the Q&A period, he failed to read the documents before him correctly and at times clearly did not understand the questions from lawmakers and therefor made some in appropriate answers.

He said that he did use a smartphone and but he did not use a personal computer. He was in the Diet to work on a bill, an amendment to the cybersecurity law which was approved by a majority vote with support from the Liberal Democratic Party-led ruling bloc. The bill calls for information sharing between public and private sectors.

Although some of the opposition party members were shocked with this announcement, he was firm in his position on his stance regarding computers. The Tokyo Olympics will be a testing ground for cyber attacks as Japan is ramping up its systems to protect against bad actors in that space.
