Softbank – Investing Billions of Dollars in Tech Companies

Tokyo – Softbank`s Vision Fund is the biggest technology investment fund in history. In addition Softbank, this fund has the backing of Apple, Qualcomm, and the sovereign wealth funds of UAE, United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia. bringing the total size to $100 billion. The list of investments include Ola, Grab, Didi Chuxing, and the Indian e-commerce company, Flipkart as well as WeWork.

Starting as a software distributor in the 1980s, Softbank is now invested in telecommunications, e-commerce, finance, technology services, and semiconductor design to name a few. There is even a robotics unit and a baseball team as part of this massive and growing conglomerate.

Softbank Group Corporation is a Japanese multinational conglomerate holding company headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. The company wholly owns Softbank Corp., Softbank Vision Fund, Arm Holdings and Fortress Investment Group. It owns between 20 percent and 30 percent of several major names including 29.5 percent of Alibaba and 15 percent of Uber.

It is the 4th largest public company in Japan after Toyota, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial and NTT and is the 38th largest public company in the world.

Softbank is a driving force in global tech and is now building out a leadership position that has reach deep in to Silicon Valley.
