The upcoming summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will be held in Hanoi, Vietnam on February 27 and 28 with the focus from the US side being the giving up of nuclear weapons. The first summit held in 2018 in Singapore – a meeting which was described by Mr Trump as falling in love. Both sides said they were committed to denuclearisation but gave not path or details on which this goal will be achieved. President Trump has generated significant coverage and optimism on the “deal” as he has forced a new style of international diplomacy. He is clearly applying new ideas that are contrary to a rules based system, he is using advanced game theory.
Mr Trump refers to meetings as “very productive” time and time again. He is wise to pick Vietnam as it is the capital of a country that the US and other countries would like North Korea to become. It retains its communist roots but at the same time trades with the US, China, Japan and other nations that are in a range on the political spectrum. Before President Trump and Party Leader Kim meet in Vietnam, their envoys will meet again and discuss details. Mr Trump is now saying that under the leadership of Kim Jong-Un, North Korea will become an Economic Powerhouse, calling the country a different kind of Rocket, an Economic one!
