The latest wave of projectiles launched from North Korea passed over the Sea of Japan in the trajectory and pathway that regime has used in the past. To be clear, the North Korean government is careful to fire missiles which are now called projectiles over an area as to avoid Japan`s airspace and flight paths of commercial airliners.The pattern seems to be set in stone and all missiles do not stray from this path.
These tests, according to ABC News, in a piece attributed to Elizabeth McLaughlin and Conor Finnegan, points to US officials traveling in the region who are meeting Japanese and South Korean officials. Note that there are military exercises taking place between the US and South Korea which North Korea has called provocations (from another source). The North Korean government has now launched 4 missiles or projectiles in the past 2 weeks with reports to expect more. Mr Kim would like to force Mr Trump to the table but it seems Trump is too busy with other projects.
Our Views: The North Korean regime continues to taunt the Western nations and US allies including Japan and South Korea. The new US policy has been to use both incentives and promises to end sanctions if Pyongyang ends its nuclear ambitions. More to come in the coming weeks.
