After years of sleeping, Mount Etna erupted last year – December 2018 it woke up from its sleep. The volcano has been active since them with some short periods of pause but in June it erupted again with smoke, ash and lava rising hundreds of feet about the mountain. One Italian volcanologist said, “It could soon end or last for months.”
This new active phase from Catania, Sicily is one of the current – three live – volcanoes that we have been monitoring. We took a quick look at the night videos and suggest you do the same is it is spewing out fire, lava and ash with shockingly loud explosions that sound out every 2 to 3 minuets. This volcano does pose risk to some small towns near the mountain. Please have a look at it on one of the many sites offering views.
