While many news organizations look into the past for stories about candidates mainly to present facts that will have impact on his or her campaign, there are stories that are true and as we have said, only slightly embellished. One recent story was a is about former Vice President Joe Biden and his comments on teaching people how to code. Biden said recently, “Through a program we had through community colleges, we can teach people how to code.”
He continued with, “we went out, literally into the hood, and found they found, our, 54 (people), they happened to be all women, the vast majority were women of color, no more than a high school degree, aged about 25-54, and a third of them only had GEDs.” Clearly this is a story that is moving but it shows some of the strengths and weaknesses of Mr Biden.
Sure, it is fantastic that women of color have access to better education and especially in the troubled inner-city neighborhoods. However, some of the audience thought this was cringeworthy and that the use of the word “hood” was pandering and possibly offensive to some listening to the speech. Mr Biden leads democrats and could be the Democratic nominee for 2020 despite some lack of support from the far left wing of the party.
