The freshman Democrat represents an area in New Jersey where President Trump is popular told his aids that he will become a Republican, likely announcing the switch next week when the House votes on articles of impeachment. Mr Van Drew is opposed to the impeachment process and has voiced it on several occasions – of course this move would place a silver lining in the impeachment process as Trump does get a so-called last laugh. Some moderate Democrat districts are now face-to-face with Far Left politics and with some who do have support for Trump, the impeachment process will likely prevent these representatives from being re-elected.
Mr Van Drew is now facing opposition in his district as Democrats have already have selected a candidate to run against him in the next election, so the complexity of this impeachment issue is only increasing. For some, the impeachment is a way to cheer for the Left wing of the Democrats but for others, a path to tool to push moderates to the Republicans.
