A Japanese doctor who has helped thousands in Afghanistan became a true hero when the Afghan President Asraf Ghani granted Dr Tetsu Nakamura an honorary citizenship. This doctor who was, at the same time, an aid worker, died of wounds along with his body guards and five Afghans. He was called a friend of Afghanistan and of the people, but an attack on his car was overwhelming. Clearly some terrorists do not share the view that an outsider can be a friend of the people. Nakamura had headed a Japanese charity called Peace Medical Service, and had helped bring new projects for clean water, dams and even new ideas to traditional agriculture in the war-torn country. Some Afghans posted pictures of Mr Nakamura and condemned his murder, themselves taking risk, as reprisals for such an act are common. He was loved by the people despite being a non-believer and a foreign national. He was a hero who took risk for the Afghan people.
