The US and Iran are now playing a dangerous tit for tat game that is escalating each day. The Iranian Intelligence Ministry held a briefing on Monday where they announced that 17 CIA spies were captured but were actually Iranian citizens. US officials did not respond to the allegations so it is unclear who exactly there so-called spies are and what crimes they committed. The US government never acknowledges CIA recruitment abroad so we will never know if these were actually members of a US unit or selected political targets by the Iranian state.
Our Views: We are concerned that this war-of-words will now escalate into something more serious as Iran is now capturing UK assets and is making threats to the US. The US has applied sanctions on the Republican Guard and senior members of the Iranian government, while at the same time preventing Iran from selling its crude oil to countries from Europe to the Far East, causing cash flow problems for the government which is now fighting inflation levels of over 40 percent. Iran and the US are also working with member states in the Gulf, with the US now being allowed to place military assets in Saudi Arabia, approved by the King Salman.
