House Passes Bill to End US Government Shutdown

A bill passed by the House would fund eight closed US departments though Sept 30, the other would reopen the Department of Homeland Security though February 8. The House has now passed a bill to fund the government without a border wall. Facing a Trump veto threat, the Senate will not “waste its time” to pass the House proposal, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Thursday. The impasse will likely not be broken as the government shutdown nears the end of day 13. Parts of the government are running, and  of course parts are not.

Trump is now demanding $5 billion for the wall and he is driving general border security. The president “cannot accept legislation that provides unnecessary funding for wasteful programs while ignoring the Nation`s border security needs,” the Trump administration wrote. Trump surprised the press when he said that the “barrier” will be put in place and even said that a “steel slat” would be a barrier. He has expanded his coverage of protection to ports around the country.

The Democrats are now fully supporting the new Gov of California who is extending health care benefits to Mexican citizens – the Democats are pushing to open the border as a grand social engineering experiment that will have impact on the cash flow of California. Ignoring the politics, our question at Classiarius is the California budget.
