This past week has been interesting in Happy Valley, Silicon Valley that is. According to news sources, Apple seems to have revoked an enterprise developer certificate in retaliation for an app that violated its policies – the certificate was for Google. What does this mean? Well sources say it could make it challenging for Google employees to test iPhone apps and use their internal apps.
Does this mean that the Silicon Valley giants are not getting along? Sure, they are getting along but note that as markets become stressed, these tech giants will start to become somewhat stressed. According to a TechCrunch report, Facebook also had a similar situation in which the company had secretly had distributed a Facebook Research app to members of a program that allowed the firm to collect data on device usage. Google apologized according to reports.
Enterprise certificates let companies develop and install apps without having to publish them. Apparently, Apple`s rules require them to be used internally and not externally. A report says that this decision by Apple could “cripple” parts of Facebook, especially among employees who no longer access early builds of apps. This is the first time we have seen reports of such action. More to come as these story develops.
