A reoccurring theme that that we have identified here at Classiarius is the fractures forming in the monoculture in San Francisco, the number of people leaving major firms is one way of measuring the internal issues surfacing at weaker firms.
A former Facebook employee who who became a powerful critic of the social media company has now been recruited by Apple – Sandy Parakilas who monitored software developers` privacy and policy compliance at Facebook is the employee. Mr Parakilas warned senior executives of potential damaging consequences of the data sharing and other politics that he found disturbing but felt the firm marginalized him and ignored his views.
Mr Parakilas has been speaking out and warning the tech sector that there needs to be improvements. He suggested that the industry should embrace encrypted messaging and “verify the truth of statements that can be viewed by millions of people.”
This guy sounds like a free speech advocate who wants “truth” statements to be verified. But note that he spent time at a company that advocates tougher regulations for tech companies. This firm is called the Center for Humane Technology, which encourages “time well spent” online.
At Apple Mr Parakilas will work as a product manager on its privacy team.
