A powerful earthquake rocked the coastal area of Japan, on the Sea of Japan side facing Korea and China in an are called Yamagata Prefecture. The earthquake hit at 10:22 pm on Tuesday night, shaking the entire prefecture and bring back memories of the 2011 earthquake that, on the Pacific side of the main island, Honshu, was the worst in Japanese history with a magnitude of 9.0. Fukushima is 159 miles north of Tokyo or about 256 kilometers. Nearly 20,000 people died in that earthquake while the Fukushima area is just coming back to life. The quake last night caused no damage to the local nuclear plants.
