China and the 2022 Winter Olympics

China is now preparing for the 2022 Winter Olympics by pouring in billions to build facilities in two cities – Beijing and Zhangjiakou. The goals are set and Beijing wants to attract 300 million people by 2022 and with seven ski resorts in the same city, 50,000 people can ski each day according to government reports. The government in Beijing announced that income related to the Beijing Winter Olympics will be tax exempt and this is of course a method of attracting investment. China is now stepping out onto the world stage in many areas and of course the Olympics is a great platform to demonstrate that it is a world power – the US, Japan, EU and Russia are all taking note.
