There are many interesting countries we have visited in the Far East, Africa and Latin America, but Switzerland stands out as one of the most interesting places to visit. Now this landlocked European nation has been again named as the top place to live this year, after Singapore ruled that position for five consecutive years.
Note that Canada, Spain, and New Zealand also finished with high scores.
This is a report from CNBC, attributed to Karen Gilchrist, and taken from the HSBC Expat annual survey. According to this article and report, about 82% of the people who moved to Switzerland for work also said they enjoyed an improved standard of living compared to their home country. Also, 71% of those who have moved to Switzerland said they now enjoy higher levels of disposable income with the average salary being $111,587 well above the global mean. And note that 70% found the surroundings cleaner.
We have first hand knowledge of Switzerland. Visiting and working in Switzerland for many years, one of our partners makes it a point to explain just how civilized the people of Switzerland are, in some ways, like the Japanese. The food culture, the number of people who understand the rules and the polite manner in which the general population presents themselves is unique.
